A Good Week for Comedies

What to Watch in the Theater:
Mother’s Day (PG) opens today. Garry Marshall does it again, with an entertaining ensemble and good mix of story lines.

Keanu (R) opens today. Key & Peele’s first movie has us looking forward to even more from this daring duo. And it’s impossible not to love that adorable kitten!

What to Watch at Home:
Norm of the North (PG) Waste of a cast – animation doesn’t usually disappoint like this.
Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death (PG13) The original didn’t need a sequel, especially one this bad. Skip it!

Plus box office results, movie news, what’s coming out on video, and more!

The Jungle (Like Life) is Better with Meddling

What to Watch in the Theater:
The Jungle Book (PG) is in theaters now. If you’re a fan of the original, you may feel conflicted. Sit back and enjoy the visuals, familiar voices and a wonderful newcomer. Too scary for the really little ones.

The Meddler (PG13) opens today. Don’t discount this film as a chick flick. Everybody needs a mom to help them out sometimes.

What to Watch at Home:
Sisters (R) A last hurrah for a pair of sisters – a switch-up on the “grown men acting stupid” premise.
Black Mass (R) Great performance by an unrecognizable Johnny Depp and supporting cast. This is how the mob works the system to continue their illegal activities and violence.

80s Music and Borrowed Memories

What to Watch in the Theater:
Sing Street (PG13) opens today. A must see! Like a John Hughes movie (coming of age in the 80s with great music), but with Irish kids and even more music.

Criminal (R) opens today. Kevin Costner as an unlikely action hero will surprise you. Premise borrows a bit from other films.

What to Watch at Home:
The Final Girls (PG13) A fun (but violent) romp with a surprising rating.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (PG13) Solid movie that gives us more background on characters we already know.

Plus box office results, awards, what’s coming out on video, and more!

Tearing Down and Rebuilding

What to Watch in the Theater:
Demolition (R) opens today. Compelling vehicle, perfect for Jake Gyllenhall, but where’s the comedy?

The Boss (R) opens today. Melissa McCarthy pulls off yet another unlikeable character.

What to Watch at Home:
The Lazarus Effect (PG13) Perfect blend of suspense, sci-fi and horror, and Olivia Wilde is perfect as a creepy character.
Now You See Me (PG13) Entertaining caper full of magic and mystery, with an amazing cast. Can’t wait for the sequel!

Plus box office results, what’s opening soon or coming out on video, awards and movie news!
