What to Watch in the Theater:
Ghost in the Shell (PG13) is now in theaters. Controversy aside, it’s a solid actioner with an interesting premise, which takes place in a setting reminiscent of Blade Runner. Scarlett Johansson is good at kicking butt and showing little emotion, as always.

Smurfs: The Lost Village (PG) opens today. This is a fun family film, beautifully animated, that answers some nagging questions about the little blue creatures. We’re so happy they’re back to animation-only!

Gifted (PG13) opens in limited release today. Sweet movie about an uncle who just wants the best for the niece he’s raising, who just happens to be a child prodigy. He starts to question his own methods when things get complicated. Max actually rated this one an 11 out of 5 – which he’s never done before – so go see it!

What to Watch at Home (Or Not):
13 Reasons Why (TV-MA) Netflix original series about a high school girl who explains to her peers, after the fact via cassette tapes, how their actions contributed to her suicide. Compelling drama about real-life (and death) situations. This is a must-watch!
