It was fun interviewing Adam on the pink carpet for Isn’t It Romantic on February 11th, 2019. This is a perfect example of the close quarters interviewers face at events, and how quickly the celebrities move along while answering questions.
Michael Keaton Interview
This was one of Jen’s very first red carpet interviews, and she was super nervous. She knew Michael Keaton was Max’s favorite Batman, so this felt like a really important interview. This is yet another example of grown up celebrities being super nice to little Jen.
This was filmed at the premiere of Herbie: Fully Loaded at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on June 19th, 2005 (Jen’s very first red carpet).
Peter Sohn & Lou Romano Interview
It was a lot of fun talking with Peter and Lou at the Ratatouille premiere on June 22nd, 2007.
Prior to this movie, they were both artists/animators at Pixar, not professional voice actors. As often happens with animated films, they provided voices for characters during the animation process (also known as scratch voices). Sometimes filmmakers like those voices so much, they decide to keep them, thus launching new careers for their animators.
While Lou left to work at LAIKA, Peter stuck around at Pixar and was the inspiration for the character of Russell in Up. He also started directing films. His latest is Elemental. We hope, now that he’s a big-time director, that his diet has improved!
Ed Asner Interview
We’re so glad Jen got a chance to interview Ed Asner. Looking back, although she wasn’t sure at the time, it seems he was the perfect combination of warmth, patience, and humor, with a touch of grouchiness.
This interview was recorded at the TVLand Awards on June 8th, 2008.
We became even more familiar with Ed’s voice, of course, as Carl in Up. It’s bittersweet, but a lovely tribute, to hear him again as Carl in the Pixar short, Carl’s Date, which plays before Elemental in theaters now.
A Tribute to Those We’ve Lost
In celebration of our 400th episode of the Smart Movie Show, we’re paying tribute to some of the stars Jennifer was fortunate to interview, who have since passed away. We are eternally grateful for even just a brief moment of their time.
