What to Watch in the Theater:
Bombshell (R) is in theaters now. Based on a true story, this movie follows three main female characters who had direct contact with Fox Chairman & CEO Roger Ailes during the period leading up to his resignation. Although one character is fictitious, meant to represent multiple women, the other two are Gretchen Carlson (played by Nicole Kidman) and Megyn Kelly (a nearly unrecognizable Charlize Theron). Their portrayals bring to the big screen a shocking story of sexual harassment that helped usher in the MeToo movement. The acting is superb and although the storyline was already pretty well-documented in the press, seeing it play out made it seem all that more real.

Jojo Rabbit (PG13) is in theaters now. This comedy-drama about Nazis follows the title character, a young boy in the Hitler youth, as he meets a Jewish girl and learns a valuable lesson about hatred. His imaginary friend just happens to be Adolph himself, played to the comedic hilt by writer/director Taika Waititi. Although the movie is often laugh out loud funny, it’s infused with heart and important messages about thinking for yourself.

What to Watch at Home (Or Not):
The Aeronauts (PG13) is streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime. This adventure reunites the charismatic Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne, and is loosely based on the true story of aeronaut James Glaisher’s history-making balloon flight. Fictional character Amelia represents a combination of male and female aeronauts. Bits of the story are told in flashback during the journey, there are some slow spots interspersed with peril. It’s an interesting story, with a strong female protagonist.

How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming (TVPG) is streaming exclusively on Hulu. This animated chapter of the story is a short holiday-themed episode, rather than a full-length film. A few years past HTTYD 3, we see Hiccup and Astrid with their kids, who have no knowledge of what life was like with dragons. As they put on a pageant to share their dragon story, visitors appear to bring the story home. It’s a heartwarming tale that wraps up rather quickly, but we enjoy getting all the characters back for the holidays – plus some new additions to the clan.

The Mandalorian (TVPG) is streaming exclusively on Disney+. Revisiting this one briefly, now that we’ve finished the first season. Thoroughly enjoyed this Star Wars live action series, with its journey to various planets, plus new friends and foes. The Child has stolen our hearts, and we can’t wait to see what adventures lie ahead for this unlikely pair.
