Looking at a Dark Future

What to Watch in the Theater:
War for the Planet of the Apes (PG13) opens today. This film answers many questions left by the original 1968 movie, giving us darkest chapter in Caesar’s legacy. Full of sadness, struggle and hope for a better future, this story brings new perspective to the apes’ journey toward world domination.
Our rating: 4.75 out of 5

What to Watch at Home (Or Not):
Okja (TV-MA) Part warm and fuzzy animal buddy movie and part political message, this Netflix original has some fun moments and quirky characters. Okja and Mija are adorable together, and the comedic roles Jake Gyllenhaal and Tilda Swinton take on are amusing, but the movie takes a dark turn, which is a bit jarring.
Our rating: 3.67 out of 5

Shut In (PG13) This thriller goes for some cheap scares and then switches up the premise partway through. After the mid-movie reveal, the story gets creepier, but the action turns familiar (maybe even cliched), so it’s not as scary as promised.
Our rating: 3.5 out of 5
